Just got hold of this Region 2 box set with 5 of Shirley Temple's 1930's films: "Heidi", "Captain January", "Poor Little Rich Girl", "Our Little Girl" and "Stowaway".
Looks great, I thought, until I got it home and unpacked the discs. One word leapt out at me - a word that holds dread for all lovers of classic films from the Golden age of Hollywood...............
COLOURISED!
All 5 films have been reprocessed into that awful quasi-colour with the resultant smeary, faded, blurry look that characterises these conversions.
I recommend all film lovers who prefer their classics as they should be meant to be seen to stay away from this box set.
Or, if Fox had done it properly, given us the B&W films as alternatives on the discs, there seems to be plenty of room for them.
And, by the way, absolutely no extras whatever either.
