The SHERWOOD RD6108 is brand new. The RD7103 has been around quite a while now. It seems to be based on my research that the 6108 is the one to go with. As I stated in another thread I need a really cheap but good quality reciever.
Am I right, that the RD 6108 for $129.99 at Circuit City does have better specs? I was gonna order the 7103 at WellSpent.org for $132.58 plus only $17 s&h. What do you think? I have to make decision quick if I order online. Otherwise I can drive up to CC today and get the 6108.
ps: I could pull a 180* and get the Pioneer VSX-511 for $160 at ebay. It's an open box. Is the 511 THAT much better though?

The RD-7103 and the RD-6108 are built on the same chassis. Same transformer, heat sinks, discrete amps, etc. The 7103 uses a Yamaha YSS-912 DSP chip and decodes Dolby Digital and DTS. The RD-6108 uses the Crystal CS-4926 DSP chip. It still decodes DTS and Dolby Digital, but it also adds completely adjustable Dolby Pro Logic II.

Were I making the choice, I'd opt for the 6108 with DPL-II.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I thank them very much. Especially to Mr. Jeff Hipps who I've seen reply on other Sherwood related topics. I bought the Sherwood RED 6108 tonight at Circuity City for $130. I stopped at Best Buy first to see what they had for open box. I found a Sony STR DE485 for $150 open box down from $200. But it had less inputs, no front inputs, and also no DPII. I really think the Sherwood was a better deal. But too bad I wasted $11 on Powerball tickets! Thanks.

I got a 6108 for Christmas to replace my JVC pro-logic rec. $100 after rebate at a 1 day sale at Circuit City and a good reciever. DTS and DD sound great on it.
