Shenmue II, exclusive on the.... (1 Viewer)

X-Box fans, go here http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories...817507,00.html and read about the exclusive version of Shenmue II. Sega has apparently canned the project for the Dreamcast in the US making it only avaiable on the X-Box. Also, X-box will be getting a port of PSO. Looks like I may be picking up and X-Box with my GameCube. Damn.

They should really port Shenmue I to the XB as well, then.
Since they are still going to release Bomberman, Tennis 2k2, and other games, and they are doing a subtitled port of Shenmue II for Europe, it is obvious that this is not about a DC version losing money.
This is about Microsoft making Sega an offer that they could not refuse.

IGNDC: First off, about Phantasy Star Online for Xbox and PC, is it going to be a new version or is it based off the recent Version 2 Dreamcast version?
CB: It's not necessarily an extension of the game as currently seen on the Dreamcast.

So, they're getting a port of PSOv2, just like the GameCube.
Ho hum, one of those days. At least Skies of Arcadia gets a chance on a wider market - it's coming to the PS2 & GameCube.

As a gamer, my best interest is in Sega surviving and thriving in the long-term.
I can't fault them for this.
As far as the XBox goes, it's now a must-buy IMO. I was buying it as a trial, and was unsure if I would keep it after the season. Now I'm definitely keeping it, and it is shaping up as the console to beat (IMO).

I'm playing the import and it is fun especially since I moved to HK in March. It's a shame about the US release. My brother was so looking forward to it. SH2 and Shenmue 2 on X-Box? No thanks. I'll stick to DC and PS2.

This stinks. I was looking forward to Shenmue 2 being the DC's "swan song." Like many of you guys, I don't plan on getting the XBox anytime soon, so I miss out on what looks to be an excellent game - possibly better than the first. I can't fault Sega for doing this (they need the $$$) but I like Jeff's idea of pressing a limited number of copies and doing it mail-order. So it goes. *Sigh*

I thought Bellfield's choice of terminology was amusing when he referred to their "platform agnostic" policy. While it can be read as "non-committal", it more commonly means "doubtful" and "unsure". Hehehe
Meanwhile, another PSO port means another delay to PSO2 (not v2). >

I may have misread all the news coverage, but the impression I got was that PSO would not be a simple port, but a different game with the same title. Wishful thinking on my part, I'm sure.
As for Shenmue II, since it won't be released until fall of next year, obviously it will be an enhanced port. What I'm kind of hoping they will do is combine part 1 and 2, and make the experience as seamless as it was originally intended to be.
