Ordered this from Best Buy yesterday. Delivery scheduled for 12/1/08. Using this as a bedroom set for when I'm too tired to watch the 56" Toshiba DLP in the living room.

This set will NOT be hooked up to cable. I'm planning on relying on broadcast digital & HD signals here in San Francisco.

I'll be using a Monoprice HDMI switcher to overcome the minimal 2 HDMI inputs so I'll probably have at 4-5 different DVD players/recorders hooked up.

Does anyone have any actual experience with this model? Any hints on fine-tuning, etc? Has anyone used this as their PC monitor?

Definitely looking forward to your follow up on this set! Got the call from Best Buy today confirming delivery on Monday morning. After I get the set, I'll be deciding on either a 5.1 surround system (using speakers, sub-woofer & AV receiver I already own) or a Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar with Sub-Woofer (ordered from Amazon for $199.99 but not yet delivered).

Hey there,

Signed up just to make this post after seeing your thread. I've had that same model since May, an it's been a right PITA.

I have kept a thread updated with the progress of the TV.

Sharp LC46SB54U + Sharp Support... - bit-tech.net Forums

To put it briefly, the set has issues with displaying pictures in 1080p/1080i/720p/720i (basically it can't display HD content) through component. There's been some people (including myself) for which HDMI also cannot display HD content.

By "not display HD content" I mean that the TV repeatedly blinks to black, like it's refreshing the input, at varying intervals. For example, when using my xbox360, it would blink (lose picture and sound) for up to 5seconds at a time, at intervals of it happened within 5 to 15 seconds of a blink, rendering gaming impossible. This also happens watching DVDs and other content at resolutions above 480p.

Read the thread linked above for more information. It took Sharp 4 months to do anything about it, trying to tell me b/s information, being rude, unhelpful, and making the whole experience a complete nightmare.

weird.
Im really liking my set right now.
I have my Dish HD receiver and PS3 connected via HDMI. My Xbox via component and my ps2 via composite. No problems here.

My set is getting 60+ channels (analog & digital) with an indoor antenna in downtown San Francisco. I've got a JVC DVD/VCR recorder hooked up on component and a 1080i first generation Toshiba HD DVD player plugged into HDMI. Ran my Dell laptop into the set as a monitor, too. Currently using the set's default Movie Mode for DVDs but I'll be calibrating the set this weekend with the Video Essentials DVD. Still deciding on either the Sony HT-CT100 sound bar or a 5.1 set up. Considering hooking up a Cyberhome CH500 for PAL DVDs via component and a Panasonic DVD recorder, either a component model or an HDMI model. If I run out of inputs I'll use a component or HDMI switcher. No problems to report.
