Has anyone heard anything on this DVD recorder with HD? It has an 80GB HD and records to -R/-RW and also has a firewire input. I've heard that it's built alongside the Pioneer 510. It's feature set seems pretty similar. I'm intrigued but wanted to know if anyone's had a chance to use one. Thanks in advance!

There is a posting about the 300u at AVSforum.com (DVD Recorders Forum), I can't link it but it's currently at the top of the first page, last post dated 3:04pm May 30 as of now.

Also, there is an article in May Sound and Vision.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Looks like a good price, but it doesn't have the Panasonic's variable bit rate, which I happen to like very much, and seems light on a few other features. The firewire in is very nice, but why wouldn't they put it on the front panel?

I bought this unit and have been putting it through its paces. I am not yet ready to post a "formal" review but will try to answer questions.

First off, in regards to Jeff's comments, the Sharp DOES INDEED have variable bit rate recording! In addition, the firewire input IS on the front panel - it is on the left behind a little flip-down door.
