Discovery is having a marathon Saturday replaying all the specials on this week. Anything of note worth taping??? The consensus here last year was that Shark Week was becoming a bloated un-original recycled event...

Way-back-when Shark Week was an informative week of programming. The shows centered around the education of shark behavior and ongoing studies with one-hour being dedicated to shark attacks.

Nowadays Shark Week is less than informative and centers around the dramatization of sharks, essentially promoting their negative public image. Throw in a celebrity guest or two and it’s turned around 180 degrees from scientific to Hollywood drama. If I wanted that, I’d simply watch “Jaws.”

With the continuing decline of the population of sharks and the media’s insistent negative portrayal of these wonderful creatures, the old Shark Week is sincerely missed.
