Ok, I'm new here so dont laugh if I overlook the common sense the rest of you take for granted. I was out shopping today for a 50" Toshiba RPTV (Analogue). I went to a store to see them, and the pictures on all of them seemed to "shake" quite noticably even at 10 feet away. The guy said all non- hdtvs did this. Is this true? I went to another shop down the street and their's seemed to as well. What gives?

With an interlaced NTSC picture this big, the inherent fading of the odd scan lines as the even scan lines are being drawn is more obvious. Especially if the topmost scan line in view is odd and the bottom scan line in view is even (or vice versa) you may see the picture seem to vibrate up and down ever so slightly.
Seeing gaps between scan lines is still more obvious when there is vertical subject movement or if you wear eyeglasses.
