I think some of these commercials are really pushing the envelope. Two recent ones surprised me in their boldness:
Bud Light: A guy and girl decide to go skinny-dipping. They strip, leaving their underwear in clear view. Unbeknownst to them, they begin swimming in a pool that has an underwater bar where a bunch of guys are watching.
Miller Genuine Draft: A couple comes home and starts making out, only to realize that the woman's sister(?) is home. Instead of being disappointed at the lack of privacy, the guy grabs a third beer (for the sister), and his look implies that a three-way is imminent.
I was not personally offended by these commercials, but I raised my eyebrows after seeing these during the World Series, which is presumably watched by many children.

What I wanna know is why they don't show people actually drinking in beer commercials. Is it against FCC regulations or something?

The first commercial you mentioned doesn't have much sexual content, just some obscured nudity. It's funny, IMO.
The second one I haven't seen, but it sounds like it would be over kids' head anyway.
I'm sure that these commercials are more annoying to parents who might have to answer their children's questions about them, than they are harmful to children.
This actually goes for pretty much all non-porn related sexual content on TV, seems like parents complain mainly because THEY are embarrassed, not because it's bad for their children.
I'm not saying that this is why you mentioned these ads, I think it's a legitimate question, and the first ad somewhat surprised me too.

There has been suggestive sexual material, semi-subliminal or overt, in commercials for decades. Check out the series of books (SUBLIMINAL SEDUCTION, etc.) by - I think it's Wilson Scott Key (out of print but available on eBay, etc.) which explore hidden images in ads for everything from alcoholic beverages to children's toys. Scary and provocative.

Much has been said about "subliminal" advertising. There is no proof that it works. The only psychological manipulation by ads is association (ie, if Michael Jordan drinks Gatorade, it must be good).
The thing that's weird about beer commercials is that some of them imply that the beer is more important than the girl. There's this one commercial where the guy's with this cute blonde, and she says she wants to go somewhere else, but he's only paying attention to the beer being passed around behind her head.
If you're placing more emphasis on beer than blondes, that doesn't make you a beer lover. That makes you an alcoholic.
I miss beer commercials that had two guys stuck on an island, having an icebox full of booze wash up on shore, and the Swedish bakini modeling team parachute down onto the island with music appearing from nowhere.
Beer commercials used to unrealistically imply that drinking the beer would get you laid. Now they're unrealistically implying that the beer is better than getting laid.
It's still better than the ones that try to make beer all serious. "My family brewed beer for generations using the finest hops and rocky-mountain ..." blah-blah-blah.

When I was younger, I used to get a kick out of hot girls in commercials. But now, I'm just finding it more and more disturbing how our society is being affected by media...
For instance...as somebody already pointed out, kids watch the world series too. Beer companies care nothing for morals or diginity. That's a statement of fact. If I ever have kids, I don't know how the hell I'm going to block out all the indecent content on television! It's just not possible!
Don't get me wrong though. I'm a social drinker and I like women alot. [IMG]

Yeah, they are a little stupid. When is the last time anybody recommended to you to drink & swim? Not such a good idea.

People do it though, much to my chagrin.
You know how difficult it is to be an 18-year-old teetotaler? During my brief time in college, everyone from the freshmen to the seniors were getting bomb-wasted. I don't drink...is there something wrong with me? (Board members: YES!)
For the record, the beer and alcohol industries, to me, as bad as Big Tobacco. Anti-drug initiatives for youth, my fat white butt. All the anti-drug foundations are run by beer companies and Big Tobacco. Sleazeball hypocrites! Even they can't decide whether they're part of the problem or the solution.
Drug-Free and Sober to the day I die!
    Sincerely,

I found it pretty surprising that during the divisional series of the baseball post-season, they were running a lot of games on Fox Family, but there was still omnipresent beer advertising. Maybe not commercial spots (or maybe there were, I don't remember), but "This game summary is brought to you by Budweiser" sort of stuff.
I honestly couldn't care less, but it did surprise me a little bit.
WRT the sexual innuendo, I think it's just a case of whoosh, right over kids' heads, at least the younger kids.

Yeah, I think it goes over their heads. I remember watching Robert Palmer's 'Addicted To Love video about 4 or 5 years back (I'm 26 now) and it was the first time I'd seen it since it had been popular. I was really shocked by how sexual it was. But as a kid I'd not noticed at all. It just seemed like a normal video.

Does anyone remember that hilarious spoof beer ad that was on SNL? It starred Adam Sandler and Chris Farley on a spoof of the typical fratboy beer ad, which turns into an ad with a homosexual bent to it with all the beefcake around the pool in the backyard? Now that was a great ad.

Obviously none of you has ever seen that 60s cult classic, Putney Swope (written and directed by Robert Downey, Sr.). It's set in an ad agency, and an early scene portrays a high-level meeting about how to market beer that shows you how some things never change.

A couple of Beer commercial comments:
Does anyone remember the commercial showing the Orangutan drinking a beer as in, okay we cant show humans drinking a beer, so we'll show an ape. Now that is innovative. Besides, anything with an ape is 10x funnier, especially that Tony Danza/Danny Devito opus from the early 80s.
IMO, the best beer commercials were the ones in the 80s with Rodney Dangerfield - "All we need is one pin, Rodney !"
Also, I believe when O'douls first came out they had a commercial showing a man drinking an O'Douls, because it had no alcohol content so it was o.k.
Last comment, beer commercials seem so overly stupid these days. Of course, it is always the digusting man who just may get a shot at some hot chick. SO very unbelievable and so very unrealistic. But I know what they are saying....

The reason there's alwasy a hot model type girl and a normal looking guy in beer ads is that this is what the really ugly girl looks like after you drink a few of "their" beers. [IMG]

What about that ad for Herbal essence shampoo? Phrases like you never had an ORGANIC exprerience?
One woman reaching into her purse and say "your new little friend" and she pulls out the shampoo bottle.
The woman in the chair getting shampooed saying yes! YES!
It's on the same level of most beer commercials, maybe done less crudely.
