I thought it was the scene in "Angel Heart" that was real...

As for Caligula, after the success of Playboy in the film world (they did Roman Polanski's "Macbeth"), Bob Guccione wanted a piece of the action - the original screenplay by Gore Vidal was supposedly great, which is what the actors signed on for. Supposedly, it was during the production that Guccione started messing around with it, ultimately discarding enough of Vidal's script for him to want his name off of it, and firing the director and shooting random sex scene and nudity inserts. I read something recently with Malcolm McDowell where he said he was stunned when he actually saw it, stunned at how bad it was and how it was not at all the movie he signed on to make.

"In The Cut" the unrated director's cut DVD. A close up BJ scene [like you would see it in an XXX rated film],by director Jane Campion[Piano].

Caligula did show in first-run movie theaters even if it did have limited distribution. My mother and stepfather went to see this thinking it was a historical costume drama :rolleyes. It didn't take long for my mother to figure out why she was the only woman in the theater.

"Irreversible"
"I realize rape is forced sex, but I don't think it belongs here"

Theres a scene at the party, when Monica Bellucci walks into a bedroom, theres a woman giving a BJ onthe bed. Its pretty clearly seen.

She mentions in the commentary that its a dildo not a real weiner.

There is also a foreign film called "Devil in the Flesh" (not that silly Rose McGowen film) that had a blow job scene. I saw this at an art theater and usually the place was nearly empty, but not for this screening. It was funny, with all the pervs showing up just for the sex and some walking out of the theater after the (not terribly erotic) scene was finished.

I didn't really see that in the movie. Even though the woman looked like she was giving a bj, it wasn't really clearly seen, other than her head going up and down in a bj motion.
One of the more shocking moments, I thought, was after the rape scene, when La Tenia is finished and rolls off of Monica Belucci's back, you can see his fully erect penis kind of sliding out. I hope that this was done with cg, as it is pretty disgusting, only adding to the brutality of the moment.

In Sex & Lucia, there are some pretty hardcore moments, and one instance, in particular, where lorenzo and lucia are doin it on the table, and lorenzo takes a picture of his michael jorden going into her basket, where it looks like full insertion. I may be wrong, but can you blame me for having my full attention on Paz Vega:D :emoji_thumbsup:

Forgot about that. Are you sure it was a woman? I thought it was a guy.

When Monica walks in the room(I think to grab her purse and leave the party), theres 2 guys and a woman on the bed. The woman is in the middle. Though its a grainy film, you can see everything.

The director of "Romance" has a new film out as well. I cant remember the name, but it also has a few hardcore moments.

This actually happens more than people think... Sometimes in the low budget "soft core erotic" stuff you see on cinemax... I was on a set once and when the director yelled "cut", the actors "didn't". It is supposed to be "Simulated" at least that's what the contract said, but sometimes the actors don't really care... You kind of "get what you pay for." Some of the actors in these films are really gross. Many walk around the set buck ass naked, when they DONT NEED TO, and if they'd do that, you can easily see they wouldn't be of the moral fiber to draw the line at penetration...

I saw Walerian Borowczyk's BEHIND CONVENT WALLS a while back on the uncut UK disc. I'm still trying to figure out if Borowczyk really had anything to say or just got off seeing how many taboos he could break and still claim it was art. As a non-practising Catholic, it didn't affect me either way. The production values match higher-end porn of the day and it appears that he shot it in a real church, but it's not particularly rewatchable except, perhaps for the scene where one of the nuns, in the absence of her illicit lover (who climbs through the window for a quickie now and again), carves herself a wooden dildo, paints her lover's face on the flat end, then pops the other end where it's designed to go, baby, all in full hairy view. I guess there's a bit of a forbidden thrill to it all, and it's as graphic as the film gets (despite copius copulation and nudity), but I can safely say I've seen better, more studied explorations of religious hypocricy, only without so much bush.

It's long been rumored that Donald Sutherland & Julie Christie were not pretending in their love scene in Nicholas Roeg's Don't Look Back (1973).

Of a more recent vintage, in Abel Ferrara's 1996 film The Funeral Vincent Gallo (what, him again?) & model Amber Smith had a sex scene which was supposedly the real thing.

Neither scene has any explicit shots that could prove the allegations one way or the other, and I believe both remain in the category of rumor.

Was the original poster inquiring about REAL sex or just full views of sexual acts? If the latter, then I'd offer the uncensored Eyes Wide Shut. Also, the final scenes with Jennifer Connelly in Requiem for a Dream.

I was taken by surprise as well, but it is a CG scene that the director felt he needed to add after viewing the rough cut.

I didn't think "The Piano Teacher" was terribly explicit, just extremely disturbing.

Peter Greenaway's films have certainly contained their share of explicit sex. Two that come immediately to mind are "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover," and The Pillow Book. There are others, as well.

As I can recall, "Betty Blue" was pretty steamy.

Perfect Love
The Life of Jesus
Ken Park

also have real sex in them. As do the above mentioned:
In The Realm of The Senses
Devil in the Flesh
Intimacy
The Brown Bunny
The Idiots

Sex & Lucia was very explicit, but I seem to remember it stopped short of actual sex.

All the "mainstream stars X & Y are rumored to have really done it in Z" stuff is IMHO, pure BS, spread by publicists to sell more tickets. If you don't see it, it didn't happen. No movie actor is going to have sex on the set for the benefit of a (large) bunch of Teamsters standing around.

Yes, on the commentary track for Scarlet Diva Asia Argento claims that two of her supporting actors had real sex when the scene was shot, but Scarlet Diva is a shot on video thingy that probably had a minimal crew, and the two were complete unknowns and probably not professional actors.

"Sometimes in the low budget "soft core erotic" stuff you see on cinemax"

Recently a few of these B Skinemax actresses have gone onto hardcore - Julie K Smith, Kira Reed, Lorissa McComass(sp?) and Lisa Comshaw have done video and internet sex.

Though not sex, in Center Of The World you can see a stripper insert and withdraw a lollipop while on stage.

Tony,
I believe the stripper was Alisha Klass.

She used to be a host of a Playboy TV talk show.

Ai no corrida, a film by Japanese director Oshima, has by far the most and the most graphic sex of any serious, film that I've seen. To be sure, it is not mainstream from most points of view, but it is included in the Sight & Sound 'best' list.
