I watched this for the first time today, wonderful film.

My question concerns the running time.
I have the Criterion edition and the case indicates a running time of 203 minutes. I checked IMDB and the longest cut indicated there is 206 minutes.
But it ran for 234 minutes!
How could this be so off?

I've just checked my Criterion DVD of Seven Samurai: it runs 3h 26m 27s, including about 7s of Janus Films distributor titles tacked on at the start of the film. So the running time on the back is slightly wrong, but only by three minutes (it's 206 minutes, not 203).

Where are you getting the 234-minute figure? Off your player's display?

I just dble checked and my player must have had a glitch, it registered at the same time you posted. Thanks....
