Get ready for one of the liveliest, leaping-est, sassiest and happiest musicals ever, as Warner Archive Collection proudly unveils its Two-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray release of the Oscar-winning 1954 MGM classic "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers"!

Directed by Stanley Donen ("Singin' in the Rain"), and starring Jane Powell ("Royal Wedding," "Hit the Deck") and Howard Keel ("Annie Get Your Gun," "Kiss Me Kate"), "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" was nominated for four Academy(R) Awards and won for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture. This Western musical is distinguished by a wonderful score of original songs from the team of Gene de Paul & Johnny Mercer ("L'il Abner"), and brilliant, acrobatic dancing scenes choreographed by Michael Kidd ("The Band Wagon," "Guys and Dolls").

Adam (Howard Keel), the eldest of seven brothers, goes to town to get a wife. He convinces Milly (Jane Powell) to marry him that same day. After they return to his backwoods home she discovers he has six brothers -- all living in his cabin. Milly sets out to reform the uncouth siblings, who are anxious to get wives of their own. Then, after reading about the Roman capture of the Sabine women, Adam develops an inspired solution to his brothers' loneliness...kidnap the women they want from the surrounding villages.

Totally unexpected and excellent news. I had to double-check that it’s not April 1.

Wasn’t this supposed to be prohibitively expensive to restore? Was it restored?

Wow, I'm impressed! I always heard that this film was in really bad shape. I hope it's been properly restored. WAC usually comes through on these archive titles though so I'm excited.

If I don't get this, my wife will kill me. I'll be parsing the Warner Archive podcast to find out what elements are being used for this harvest.

    I can’t breathe

    Wow, oh wow

    Tears in my eyes moment.

Maybe the pan and scan Four Brides For Four Brothers that I grew up with on TV will be included as an extra

This will be my fourth purchase of Seven Brides... my first was VHS, followed by Warner's "snapper", which succumbed to rot, unfortunately. My third was the 2-disc DVD, which included the 1.75:1 version. This is a movie, if properly harvested and prepared for disc, will literally "pop". Lots of great colour used in this one.

I've never seen this film--I'll have to pick up this new Blu-ray and fix that!

I hope this announcement bodes well for other problematic titles (not naming names, of course ;) ).

WOW, I had no idea Warners were restoring this as I understood the elements to be in really poor shape. Makes an exciting announcement even better. This is a must-have, Day 1 purchase if there ever was one. Wonderful, wonderful day!

Bless Their Beautiful Hide and Wonderful, Wonderful Day indeed!!!!! Amazing news! Never thought I'd see this announcement. Day 1 purchase for me, also. They said on their FB page that pre-order info. will be up soon. Not soon enough!

And if this news isn't exciting enough, then to have Mr. Harris chime in that it's "An expensive, and beautifully produced restoration." Wow!!!

Everyone, please buy the heck out of this title, give it to everyone on your gift list, so it's so successful that High Society may see the light of day on Blu-ray.
