David, i have to admit that i also want alot of the september 2 titles as well. But for now saved by the bell, and john hughes 3 pack, since the only 1 out of those 3 i owned was breakfast club. Others will have to wait till end of year sales. :frowning:

Of note is that Disney seems to be really improving and is now putting out some great sounding OAR discs. In addition to a proper WS non-colorized release of Absent-Minded Professor (only gripe being, no extras here), we get the following releases:

The Apple Dumpling Gang
We get a widescreen transfer on this one apparently. Some nice looking special features too, it looks like:
# Commentary by director John Hough and Actors Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann
# Making The Return Trip "Disney Kids With Power"
# Lost Treasure: "Christoper Lee, The Lost Interview"
# 1978 Disney Studio Album
# Classic Disney Cartoon - The Eyes Have It
# "The Gangs Back In Town"
Some of these discs look worth it for the extras alone. Hopefully this foreshadows more OAR from Disney. Note that I couldn't find technical info on the Brave Little Toaster releases, but I'm not very interested in these.

I'll probably be picking up some of the above, possibly some others, along with the definites of Meaning of Life, More American Graffiti, and Where Eagles Dare. It's going to be an expensive week. :D

The main must-buy is the "Alias" season 1 set.

Hours and hours of Jennifer Garner in widescreen format without commercials...yummy.

The show has struggled in the ratings, and it is always touch-and-go as to whether it will return. It is a terrific show on a mediocre network up against tough competition.

I just want to ask my fellow adults what the appeal is of owning "Saved By The Bell" on DVD? ;)

I understand the need to buy an enthralling drama like "Alias" or "CSI" on DVD, but there's also the need to own an absurd pop culture classic like "Saved by the Bell".

The show is hilarious with how little regard the producers and writers paid to reality (let alone continuity) even during episodes that were supposed to be hard-hitting (all the drug-related episodes and the one with the oil drilling, for example). A cast we all remember and cornball plots/jokes galore make this a no-brainer for me. I'll also admit that part of this is nostalgia-related for me, as I used to watch the show every afternoon in 6th and 7th grade on TBS.

My wife and I used to watch it on TBS when we were in college (if you can believe that) so I do understand the appeal.

We all remember Zach, Screech, Slater, Lisa Turtle, Mr. Beldin, etc.

I was just surprised to see that show rate higher on lists for individuals than "Alias."

You're talking to a guy who will probably buy season 1 of "SpongeBob", so I suppose I am the pot calling the kettle black, but I do find this to be interesting. :b

The set itself isn't exactly inexpensive, and maybe that is part of the curiosity that I have as to the appeal.

It is a show that you could plop down on the couch and watch after school. It is fun.

Owning it though...I am intrigued.

SBTB was a show that doesn't get made nearly often enough: a fun, entertaining show that taught good values and tried to teach kids to "do the right thing", without being preachy about it.

I have a kid who I would not mind getting that message at all. Buying these now for him to enjoy when he's a bit older? Especially with the sets so cheap? That's a no-brainer...of COURSE I'll do it.

In the meantime, I would be happy to take a trip down memory lane and have some laughs with this gang again. Whether or not I ogle the fine young ladies back when they were jailbait is immaterial...though many men my age consider that a worthwhile reason alone to get this set. But the shows and situations were great, and certainly as good a half hour to watch as any "adult" sitcom. I may not watch them all, but buying them for my child is a good way to relive my childhood a little bit.

THAT is why I'm buying it. That is why it's a must-buy.

I might get the Hook Superbit, but I thought it was coming out on the 9th, not the 2nd.

Saved by the Bell seasons 1 & 2 and CSI season 2.

I have never seen Alias -- I'm not sure I'd like it. Worth a blind buy (I did a blind buy on CSI season 1 and it panned out)??

Lawrence of Arabia: Superbit and The Phantom of the Opera: Ultimate Edition.

I might get The Absent Minded Professor: Presentable Edition, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, and The Meaning of Life: SE...but probably not on street date.
