Yes you can use your receiver as a pre amp as long as it has pre amp outputs. What's your price range for a amp? Do you want a two, five, or seven channel amp?
at least a 5,1,500 or so im goinging to use it just for dvd, hdtv,no music disks.100 watts per chanell is enough.I have two svs plus comming,no mater what I get its probaly going to be better than what I have now.
what about all this stuff on ebay is it a gamble? i looked up the rotel about 1200.do preamps run about the same? do get more with a pre amp, than useing a receiver for one? might find a receiver laying around.
I'm currently waiting for Rotel and a few others to come out with their new pre/pros. Right now I use my Denon AVR-3300 receiver as a pre/pro to my Rotel RMB-1095 amp. The sound is great. True pre/pros are supposed are supposed to have better sound than receivers(no noisy amps in true pre/pros). Right now all the current pre/pros don't have the latest surround formats that the receivers have(6.1,7.1 DPLII). Well some of the newest ones do but they cost around $3000.00 - $4000.00. I've always been a little leary about ebay, but that's just me. Some peaople love it.
