It may be possible if you stick with a receiver for a pre/pro and look into used amps. You should be able to get that HK320 w/ a Parasound 855a 5 channel amp for around $1000.

actually the parasound 855 suggestion was for new, i see them all the time on ebay for $500 if you are comfortable purchasing online.

If you want more power for that price though i think you will definitely have to go used.

seems pretty hard to get a 5 channel amp and a pre/pro for less than a grand new. Also don't forget to add the price of interconnects times 5.

    Steve & Karen,

    You talking 5.1?

    Look around.....

A couple months ago I lucked out and got my Sherwood Newcastle combo for under $800, both new in box. One from Ubid one from Ebay. I frickin' love them. I think there may be deals out there to be had.

And some advice: don't be afraid to get used equipment at this level. No-one who's willing to go to the trouble of separates is going to abuse them. Just MHO though...

Oulaw 1050 Receiver $500 (for 5.1 DD and DTS - new)
    Parasound HCA-855a ($400-500 - used)
Just an example (it's what I am using right now) [IMG]
