All I can say that if the senate is even considering taking a vote on this stupidity, anyone who votes in favor of this ridiculous idea should be voted out of office!

David, I realise that it goes beyond the player breaking, but I think it's pretty reasonable to assume that, outside this forum, most people only have one player. [IMG]

Just to chime in again, I'd like to say that I agree with those who think this is bogus. The article doesn't even say who's sponsoring it for chrissake. I think this must be something Mr. Bersell experienced in a dream or a lie told to him by a bored Senate page boy. It makes no sense.

The impression I got from the article was that the guy who wrote it is talking about DIVX, he just never heard what happened to it. Maybe he's referencing an old article about it and never knew that its already died.

Nothing relating to draconian copy-protection legislation surprises me anymore. The RIAA gangsters are the worst offenders, money-hungry animals with no respect for the art they pimp. Movie-related issues seem to grow out of the audio battles. The trouble comes in with the large sums of money these industry groups hand out to legislators who then become their lapdogs.

I'm sure some money-grubbing suit has dreamed up a scheme like this, but I doubt it's being seriously pursued. The lost revenue from the people boycotting this format around the world would kill it.

Plausable, John...but the chemical is supposedly integrated into the layer with the data itself. Don't ask me how.

I'd be one of the first to be tossing crates of DVD's into Boston Harbor if this were to pass [IMG]

Not to you maybe, but to us.

About this AP report, I am going on the newswire at work and try and locate this report. I'm even wondering if AP carried this. The alleged report has appeared in only two place online that I know of.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is a hoax. I simply cannot imagine the studios backing such legislation--not now, after the format has become the fastest-growing consumer entertainment medium in history.
