I don't know how many of you live in Minnesota, but this is a huge blow [IMG]
I feel sorry for his sons when they find out about this. (His Wife and Daughter were on the plane)

This is terrible [IMG] I always liked Wellstone. My friends and I are all shocked...
I wish people would avoid using small aircraft, they're just too dangerous.

This is truly shocking....and it really throws the upcoming election for the balance of power for a loop. The one liberal US Senator.....

I think many people running for office use the smaller planes to get into and out of smaller airports that can't accomodate jet aircraft. Eerily similar to the crash in 2000 of Mel Carnahan's plane.

Apparently, the weather was terrible near Eveleth this morning (where the plane crashed).
I don't want to get into politics, but I believe that Wellstone was a good man, and among the most principled and honest of politicians.
It's a great loss, and how tragic for his family. My heart goes out to them.
My workplace is full of shocked silence.

Regardless of his political slant...and discussion of which could get this thread locked...he seems VERY well liked by nearly everyone on either side of the political aisle. On FOX News...across the political spectrum...there have been sincere expressions of loss.

My thoughts for his surviving children.

This is a very sad day for all those involved. [IMG]
It could have been even worse if Senator Kennedy was also on
board, But he choose to stay in Minneapolis just after meeting with Wellstone.
    So very sad..

and it really throws the upcoming election for the balance of power for a loop

Since its too close to election day to change the ballots, my guess is that Minnessota gets to do what Missouri did. They keep Wellstone on the ballot, and should the people elect a dead guy, Governor Ventura appoints a replacement.

Actually, MN state law gives the Democratic party the right to put someone new on the ballot up until four days before the election. That means they have a week.

It's chaos, though, truly, for both sides.

Life's cruel irony is that the Wellstones were flying to attend a funeral.

Will Governor Ventura pick someone to fill out the remainder of his term?

This is really sad news. Everyone here in Minnesota is in shock. This race was VERY close and VERY meaningful, not only for the state, but for the country. Mr. Wellstone was much respected from both sides of the aile in the Senate.

Please, let's keep political talk out of this discussion about this tragedy, specifically concerning political parties and replacement candidates. Thank you.

I am still in shock of what has happened today.
I didn't know he had so many friends in Washington.
My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

As I type this I am looking at my Wellstone sticker that is on my monitor.

    A great loss.
The Wellstone's daughter, Marcia, was a teacher at White Bear Lake High School. She was an active member of the re-election team.

It was a beech king air A100,
One of the safest planes ever made since it came out.
    Again such a sad day[IMG]
