The Gamecube will no longer recieve any Sega Sports titles. Reports have been coming for awhile now and this was exptected but today came official word from Sega:

Sega Sports on the GC cancelled

A disappointment for Sega Sports fans on the GC no doubt. With sales as low as they have beenit was only a matter of time.

You should change the title of this thread so that it is not a teaser. Just a suggestion.

Honestly, I am almost happy that SegaSports is quitting the gamecube. I would never buy a sports game on the gamecube if I had a PS2 or XBOX. I have an XBOX, and am glad that Sega will spend more time making the XBOX versions better.

Too bad for the Cube owners, although my Sega Sports purchases have been on the Xbox. Disappointing. NFL2k getting buried by Madden wasn't a surprise, but the space between them was. Really shocking how poorly NBA2K and NHL2K have sold compared to their EA counterparts, considering they're widely considered the better games.

Damn EA and their mindless zombie following.

My problem with EA is that every year they exemplify the "just update the rosters and add a minigame" cliche a little more. What's left to add to Madden, a major graphical overhaul? Sega's quality that was apparent from day one on the Dreamcast, and that was such a breath of fresh air.

I don't expect Sega to ever take a substantial bite out of EA's market. The masses are simply too used to buying Madden, NBA Live, NHL every year because they're used to buying the EA game. And too many gaming magazine/website editors are whores for EA because EA published the only good sports games when they were punk kids playing Genesis.

Philip S, you are exactly right. I think sports games in general are overrated due to the horrible cheating AI. I haven't bought a sports game in 5 years.

This isn't suprising, but what does sega expect when they release the games almost a month later on the gamecube, nevermind making the game a direct port from the ps2. Knowing nintendo never was a console that sold sports brands sega should of done extra work to sell them, not less.

To be fair, Damien, it's not just Sega's sports games that aren't selling on the GC - EA's haven't done good numbers either.

I understand their have been a **few** good sports titles over the years, but the price is not worth it. With each new football year, you get a marginally better football game for $50. I bought my cube mainly for Nintendo 1st party titles, so that is enough games for me. If EA would make Madden for the N64, I doubt they will stop with the cube.
