I just picked up a RP-56 today. I'm impressed with the lack of the chroma bug, but the flickering is noticeable. Having said that, the only movies I've seen it in are Toy Story 1 + 2. X-Men looks great (Jean Grey's red dress) at least. The picture overall I'd say is better than my Toshiba SD-5109.

Can you describe the flickering problem? I'm looking into replacing my Toshiba SD-6200 with the RP56...

The "flickering" is sorta like looking at a neon sign. However, it's very slight. You might not even notice it.
I need to exchange my unit. It makes a very loud buzzing noise when playing DVDs. It sounds like it's about to explode.

I think you have a faulty unit. I have two of the 56s and none of them buzzing and using Samsung TSK3092WF 16:9 direct-view TV, I can't see the flicker at all.

Like I said, the flickering is very slight. Your mileage may vary. I had to stick my nose up to the screen to notice it.

Glad to hear the flicker isn't too bad. Think I'm gonna pick up one of those suckers and try it out...

The flicker is not caused by a faulty nit, rather by the CCS setting on the Sage/Faroudja chipset. Read the shootout update (link above), it is mentioned.
