(Joseph Losey, 1968)
Release date: 18 November 2019
Limited Blu-ray Edition (World Blu-ray premiere)

Joseph Losey’s lurid and often misunderstood drama stars the great Elizabeth Taylor (Suddenly, Last Summer) as an ageing London prostitute who befriends a young woman (Mia Farrow, See No Evil) that reminds her of her long-dead daughter. As the bizarre relationship between the two evolves, the appearance of Robert Mitchum (Cape Fear), as Farrow’s abusive stepfather, ignites deep emotions and dark passions.

With its exquisite production design, stylish cinematography and elegant score, Joseph Losey’s lost masterpiece finally makes its long-overdue premiere on Blu-ray.

watched this film for the first time today and thoroughly enjoyed it!

i'd rank this with "reflections" and "woolf" as taylor's best work from that period.

also love the indicator label, just finished viewing their "torture garden" disc

yesterday, now working my way thru the extras on this disc today!

I'm pleased to hear that you enjoyed Secret Ceremony, Marc! It's an interesting film, and I'm really appreciative that it's been such great treatment on Blu-ray.

I said it a few weeks ago in a different thread, but I'm really astonished that we have so much of Elizabeth's output from this later period in her career on Blu-ray, especially as so much of it was dismissed or under-performed (usually both!) at the time... Boom!, Secret Ceremony, The Only Game in Town and X, Y and Zee.

If someone had told me we'd get those films at all, let alone before National Velvet, A Place in the Sun and The Taming of the Shrew, I never would have believed it! I'm still hoping those films make their Blu-ray debut in the near future.
