Did anyone catch the History Channel doc about Air Force One? It is really amazing how much work goes into the prep and operation of it. One thing I was shocked about is that a 2nd AF1 follows the first as a backup.

Probably serves as a decoy as well. No, I wanted to but other things called me away, maybe a repeat?

It does. It also serves as a backup if something goes wrong with the first plane. And it also is the guinea pig. For example when they were flying over Africa. Their was a volcanic eruption and they were looking for a safer way to fly through the ash. So they sent the other one ahead to look for the best route.
