Hey, well my first attempt at Sears in Lexington, KY, failed. I brought in a copy of simplycheap.com for a toshiba 50h81 priced at 1979.95. I told the salesperson I'd buy the tv today if they matched this price.
He told me they are now only allowed to match prices from a select list of internet vendors. I asked to see the list and also had him copy it for me.
    Here's the list:
    800.com
    abtelectronics.com
    amazon.com
    barnes&noble.com
    bestbuy.com
    bluelight.com
    circuitcity.com
    gap.com
    homedepot.com
    jcpenny.com
    lowes.com
    macys.com
    ourhouse.com
    outpost.com
    radioshack.com
    target.com
    toysrus.com
    walmart.com
Is this the real deal now or what? I persisted that I'd pay cash today if he matched my internet price but he said he could not, so I left..what do you think?

Try another location or even another sales rep. I am not surprised that they'd narrow there list down. Most of these sites can be modified to show any price.
    Good luck.

At least you have an option. Here in Puerto Rico they won't match internet offers only local!

Wouldn't it be kinda easy to screw a B&M pricematch over by just modifying the page of the website that the product is in??? Saying it was a 'one day only sale' and lowering the price a bit?

Seems to be a store to store variance as well as salesperson. I haven't tried it yet but I did speak on the phone with someone at the local Sears here. They said they will match any price, just print out the page , she said.
I'll probably be trying it next week when I get my TV for an RP 56.

    Toys r Us? Ooookay!
Most of those are not authorized Toshiba distributors, and they could say 'no' to any warranty repairs.

John Tyrone, go to hometheaterspot.com and go to section on group buys. There's a group buy on the 50h81.

I think I'll try another salesperson tomorrow at Sears, or go up to Florence and look. Now I need to find a set top box, and a good antenna!

    Guys,
While Sears has been doing Internet price-matching for over a year now, they appear to have modified their policy. While some of the sites they had matched before were reputable, not all of them were, and quite frankly, the mass exclusion of nearly EVERY site on the 'Net is just a way for them to cease the pointless practice of selling merchandise below cost. (Does anyone think knocking $200 off a $800 camera is good business, especially when you're a retailer known for liberal return policies?)
It would be easier to just come out and say that they don't match Internet prices, period. While some stores and employees may not have gotten word of this yet, expect it to be the end of the free ride. All associates should be calling an 800 number to verify site addresses, and when they do, they will be denied.

Next time take a circular ad from a newspaper. They cannot deny those.
