Can someone explain the "on the grey"? I just don't get it. It's repeated over and over. Well, OK I don't get "kiss from a rose" either. What am I missing?

There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea.
You became the light on the dark side of me.
Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill.
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and
The light that you shine can be seen.
A light hits the gloom on the grey,
I've been kissed by a rose on the grey,
I've been kissed by a rose
I've been kissed by a rose on the grey,
...And if I should fall along the way
I've been kissed by a rose
...been kissed by a rose on the grey.

Graham,

Well you've skipped a few words here and there but that's ok...

Generally speaking, grey is considered drab and dreary, yes?

Consider "The Kiss From a Rose" to be love, and it's effect on a formerly drab and dreary (grey) life and I think that you're probably getting pretty close to the intended message of the song.

The first time the lyrics come up it's
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey...

Of course I'm not noted for my lyrics analysis, and I could very well be botching it big time.

Best,

Wow, i thought this song was pretty obvious. I guess you're not much on metaphor :)

John K has it right, A kiss from a rose is a little bit of color and sweetness on a grey canvas.

Thanks for the insights.

I copied the lyrics from some website - there were others will all the lyrics including all the ba-da-da-das but I figured they weren't germain to the issue!

There's more to it than that--the chorus, for one--but it still wasn't crucial to the discussion:

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you the stranger it feels, yeah
Now that you're rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

Haven't heard the song in a long time, but I like it. The only other Seal song I know is Don't Cry, and it's pretty good, too.
