Hi all--

I have the sinking suspicion that this has been asked before, but could someone help me out with the amount of space needed for the different sizes of screen?

I live in an apartment with about six or seven feet of clearance between the screen and eye. My budget allows me a 50" RPTV or 42" plasma (EDTV), max.

Any suggestions?

Wayne,

Welcome to the forum.

A rule of thumb is: sit not closer than 1 - 1.5x the width of your screen (or else you would have to move your head to much to and fro :) ), but not more than 6x the width.

It's a rough figure and also depends on personal taste and other influences (e.g. children generally want to sit a bit closer to the screen than adults might).

Thanks, both of you. Looks like I'm going to go with one of the those 42" Panny plasmas; looks, to me, like a better picture.
