Scientific Atlanta 3100 HD connections (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone, Boy I hope this makes sense. I have a Pioneer 533HD TV which has both RGB(?) input and
component input. I just recently signed up for Cox HDTV and they have the Sci At 3100HD HDTV setop box set up thru the component inputs of the pioneer TV. Problem is I have two DVD units which I want to connect to the Pioneer as well. So I thought I could use the special RGB converter to connect the 3100HD to the TV and I could use the other 2 component inputs for my dvd player and dvd recorder. Does the RGB input, using the component to RGB converter provide as good a picture as the direct component?? Thanks

It should. Also consider an external component video switch. Some of them are automatic and/or controllable via infrared. A couple of brands to check would be Zektor (www.zektor.com) and Audio Authority (http://www.audioauthority.com/)
