Scaling question about Panasonic RP-91 (1 Viewer)

Can someone tell me how the scaling deals with the non-anamorphic letterbox titles with subtitles in the "black bar" area? I'm interesed in both player-generated subtitles (Andrei Rublev, Criterion) and "burned-in" ones (the original edition of "The Last of the Mohicans".

I don't know about player-generated subtitles, but for burned-in ones, such as the non-anamorphic Hunt for Red October, the RP91 allows you to move the image area vertically to allow room for the caption.
