I don't own any P&S DVDs (not even sure if I've watched any), but it used to be a fairly common occurrence back in the VHS days.
I do actually have one DVD that contains this message, now that I think about it. Reap the Wild Wind. It was shot in 1.37 and cropped for the DVD release to 1.33.
Nothing to worry about. But, did you ask Netflix for the P&S version, or did they just send it? Call your lawyer.

It is my understanding that this is the only version Netflix is carrying. Talking about loosing touch with your customer base.
I have seen that screen on a few DVD's in the early years.

Man, I was pissed when I got Mummy Returns as well. I sent a rather nasty email to Netflix and would highly suggest everyone else do the same. Let them know what a bunch of BS this is. This better not be a recurring event...

Ech...I glad I quit using them when I did. If I want to rent a disc, I'll walk down the street to the Video Update, thank you very much. They carry the widescreen versions, and they have porn too...

A buddy of mine bought a porn that is not only 16x9 anamorphic with multi-angle support, it also has both DD & dts 5.1 soundtracks.

I think most Vivid DVDs are Wide Screen Anamorphic with atleast DD 5.1.

Yes, porn in anamorphic widescreen with DD 5.1 EX and DTS-ES 6.1 soundtracks with a seamless branching version of the film (watch it soft or hard ) along with director's commentary, multiple angles, deleted scenes, theatrical trailers, production notes, and cast and crew bios that include Easter Eggs that are clips from the other actors and actress' films.

Funny how this has evolved into something having nothing to do with pan and scan, Mummy Returns or Netflix!
NuTech has some classic 70's porn films out with audio commentary by a porn historian named Jim Holliday- great stuff! They also have fake multi-angle on some scenes where you can hit the angle button and the picture will flip backwards.
