Could they have fouled up more of the physics in space especially on this movie if they had tried? I mean, they didn't get one thing out of every 10 anywhere near correct.

Whoever wrote it and created the effects should be fined for setting back the science of spaceflight in movies to the level it was when Jules Verne wrote his novels.

Sorry, just had to vent. We now return you to the scheduled programming.

My overwhelming impression when I saw the film, besides obvious physic errors:

"Did you really need to invest 3 hours to tell THAT story?"

Seemed like the film could have been a better cheesy sci-fi space epic if it could have whacked out a few serious portions and got the running time under 2 hours.

Oh, so it would be a 2 hour hell instead of 3? Any way you dice it, it's a waste. I'm sure this film has merit somewhere...but, I didn't see any the first and only time I watched it and I have Zero desire to watch it again. There were inaccuracies in Physics? I didn't notice that above the all the other horrible images already on display.

It seems I am the only one on this forum who actually liked this movie, which seems to have become the reference for bad big budget movies on this forum.
I find it fun, the characters are funny, the direction is gimmicky (1.203 second scenes) but all those rotations are fun and work well for an action movie, the music is very emotional and the subject matter is one that I do not tire of.
And it has many terrific lines:
"Get the phone book! Get the phone book! Get phone book!..."
"I would like to name it after my wife: She is one life sucking bitch from which there is no escape"
    "Get off the nuclear warhead"
"This is just space. We are not even in outter space yet"
"Throw in a lot of Hail Mary's"
"What are you doing with a gun in space?!"
    and countless others.
The scientific inacuracies did not bother me much. How they took off that asteroid though is probably one of the biggest mysteries in movie history! [IMG]
Oh well, I guess I will keep liking this movie in my little corner [IMG]
That said, please resume your regularly scheduled bashing.

I'm not sure which is the most tragic; that a film gets so much of it's science wrong or that people are willing tie up hours (maybe days) of their own lives telling the world how wrong it is. [IMG]
My favourite geek-moan of all time was in response to the dice-rolling scene in The Phantom Menace. The whinge went something like "The dices (sic) didn't make the right sound when they hit the hard floor of the hanger". Yeah, and I bet that person who submitted that one will still be a virgin when he dies.

Although I'm well aware that it's not a good movie, I'd definitely list Armageddon as a true guilty pleasure of mine. The movie reminds me of an ice cream buffet table: colorful, tasty and bad for your teeth. [IMG]

Well, I liked it. It's not a documentary, so I don't care how many inaccuracies it has. It's simply not an issue for me.

Exploding a bomb 800 feet into a 300 mile rock might not work in real life, but this isn't real life, it's just a movie. In the film, it is established that they need to get the bomb 800 feet into the asteroid, and all subsequent scenes follow that set-up. It stays true to itself, and that what matters, whether or not such a thing could happen in real life?

Why does anyone care whether or not the movie is close to reality?

Somebody has way to much time to list all the errors in the movie!

But thanks for pointing out the errors. I for one that this would qualify as a guilty pleasure type movie, both me and my wife like the movie.....

I care because when I watch a movie, there is something called "suspension of disbelief." If the phoniness or inaccuracies in a movie are so bad that I notice them, then I am drawn out of the movie. I begin NOT to watch the movie, but watch the movie for the next foul up.

That isn't what bothers me so much about this movie. To quote Shakespeare

Armageddon is a great movie. It's horrifically innacurate, but the ensemble cast is just so much fun you end up not caring [IMG]
Michael Bay doesn't make good movies, he makes fun movies (OK Pearl Harbor is 85% bad)

3 1/2 years later and people are still whining about Armageddon? [IMG]
Chalk me up for another one who enjoyed the hell out of this flick. No, it's not frickin' frackin' Ikiru, but it was a helluva lot more fun than the terminal borefest that was Deep Impact. Tea Leone, indeed...
