Am I the only one holding out for a special edition release of this movie? The current DVD is 4 years old, and I don't believe there was no documentary footage shot when filming the movie.
SPR deserves a special edition treatment, and I'm waiting patiently for this release to happen. It's a great movie, but I'm not buying it until an SE is released...

It might happen but probably not. Has Spielberg done any re-issues to date? Since the man doesn't seem to ever stop making films or television series, I doubt he'd find the time to work on another SPR edition.

Well "The Color Purple" has a re-issue. Though I think that has more to do with Warner than Spielberg

I think you are really depriving yourself.

There has been no word AT ALL of a new release and the current DTS version is probably the most powerful sounding DVD to date and has a very good picture. Why wait when you have "A" or "A+" quality now?!

I have no idea if a new version will eventually appear, but I think it's odd to wait indefinitely to get a film you like just because they MIGHT make a version with more extras. The current one has supplements and presents the film itself very well. You're going to skip it until some indefinite time that may never come because you have to have a featurette about the film too? I don't get that attitude...

Isnt SPR refference quality already??? I prefer my Video and Audio to the best than to have special Featerus that take up more room on the disc.

I think the presentation of the movie on the current DVD is very good - but so was the original Starship Troopers. I would really like to see some more documentary footage about this film, and I can't afford another DVD right now anyway, so I'll just hold on a little longer...

I'd reconsider waiting for a SPR:SE. The dts disc in particular is one of the best-sounding (and -looking) discs out there. It's doubtful Spielburg/Hanks will rerelease an already quality title, especially since they've already revisited that period of history with Band of Brothers miniseries (which is, IMO, better than SPR). I'm sure you can find it for cheap at a place like Deep Discount DVD, so go for it.

It says it is a "Limited Edition" but it seems to always be on the shelves. I think this is odd. Will they ever pull it to make it limited?

I don't think we'll see a SE of SPR. Unless maybe for 20th or 25th anniversary of it.

DVDEmpire has it listed for $26.94 (both versions) and Deep Discount DVD has it for $21.55 (both)...so, when compared to releases now, it's no bargain.

There was no footage {I think!} of behind the scenes stuff shot for SPR because Spielberg was busy there with another documentary crew who were shooting interview footage with him for the Close Encounters DVD.

Someone is going to say it - so I might as well - get it through Columbia House. :) You can get each edition for about $8.00 each using one of the better codes (through enrollment).

I don't think that one necessarily negates the other. As a matter of fact, the presence of a Laurent Bouzereau documentary team on the SPR set would make me think it was more rather than less likely that there was some behind the scenes stuff shot. The featurtte on the DD DVD has some behind the scenes stuff, but I can't remember if any of it was on set.

Regards,
