Is Lorne Michaels the central character here? From the preview, I get the vibe that “they said he couldn’t do it, and here we are, 50 years later!”

I’m in for this, no matter what. The first five years of the show were as groundbreaking as anything on TV, right up there with All in the Family.

It seems like an ensemble piece but I believe it only is telling the story of the night of the very first show. I would assume Lorne is a rather large piece of that story, so perhaps he is the point which the rest of the story revolves around.

It's been amusing, if not surprising, this week to see the reaction to the release of the poster for the SNL film coming out this fall, SATURDAY NIGHT (2nd photo). People are like – it looks sort of like one of those old 60s or 70s posters – not realizing that it's an obvious homage to the late great JACK DAVIS (the collage).

Davis designed designed dozens of film posters including, yes, many from the “60s or 70s” (which, of course, is when the SNL movie takes place (1975). His other work includes Record Albums, TV Guide covers and ads. Davis was one of the founding cartoonists for Mad Magazine in the 50s and continue to work for them and other publications until he passed in 2016.

The first Saturday Night live shows, I remember watching them, were a big deal to me as a kid. I look forward to seeing this.

Kind of looks like they are making Dick Ebersol to look like the bad guy. I hope that’s not the case. He was only second to Lorne to developing SNL and kept it alive in the early to mid 80s

Also Bob Tischler the co show runner and head writer during the Ebersol years just died a few days ago

Hmm... if, which seems to be the case, the film focuses on the mechanics/challenges of making a live TV comedy show in 1975 then I'm interested. If it were more of a tribute to the cast's early sketches then not so much.

Sort of feel like this film is a decade or two late. The show has been so awful for so long now.
