I ended up peeling/scraping off the dried up thermal paste (and applying a new slab of thermal paste) on the heat sink that needed to be removed before the DMD board could be removed. The rest of the interiors seemed to be okay, didn't want to mis-align things if I could avoid it. I'm good with the results.
