The new Sam HLS5687W now has a larger version on sale for less than
the 56". Does anyone know why? I can get the 6187w on sale at TV
Authority for 2699 and at PC Mall for 2698. Why would a new bigger model
of a TV be sold for less than the smaller version? The 56 is on sale at CC
for 2999. What gives? Also, the HL-s5687w is on discplay at CC and the picture is UNBELIEVABLE, but they only demo it with a special dvd that
Samsung sent along with the TV. Does anyone know how good standard HD is on this set? And reg digital cable? I am ready to pull the trigger on the 61"
but I want to be sure that the standard picture is good since 1080p content
is not out yet. Thank you for your responces.

I would be very suspicious of the 61" being $2699.

It might be a misprint/mistake. I saw the 61" for that price at CC, but it was NOT the 87 series, although it had the identical cabinet.

If it is for real, GO FOR IT! I have the 56" and it's a great set so far. I have a really crappy cable company here, so the cable looks like crap no matter what, but I can tell you that DVDs and Xbox 360 looks friggin amazing.

I have a more in depth review a few posts down.

Thank you for your responce. The 61" 87 series is listed at $3399 at both the
TV Authority & PC Mall. When you add it to your cart a $700 instant discount
is applied from the manufacturer. Looks like a good deal to me. I just might
but it now and store because the new house wont be done until July.

Go for it. I got the older model HL-R6168W (61" 1080p with a different stand) for $2540 shipped and the PQ is incredible (this is coming from a die-hard CRT fan). Your weakest link will be the source at this point, some HD broadcasts are not as good as others. For that price I don't see why you would be disappointed with the purchase.

HD-DVD looks very, very good and even SD discs upscaled to 1080p with the Toshiba HD-DVD look nice. SD from a regular player is not that good and quite frankly I have trouble watching regular SD broadcasts now.
