Samsung HD931 - 1080i or 720p? (1 Viewer)

I've just hooked up my new Samsung HD931 DVD player and my Sony GWIII supports both 1080i and 720p with DVI. I searched, but I didn't seen any discussions about which to use. They look pretty similar to me but I've only spent 1/2 hour with the player. It seems like 720p would be superior (isn't that kind of like 1440i?) but I just don't know.

Thanks,

Donald

On my Samsung DLP the 931 has a marginally better PQ thru DVI at 720p. I agree the differences are subtle...

I 2nd John's report; 720p is just a bit better with the Samsung DLP.

However, on my pal's Toshiba RPTV 480p and 720p look about the same, but 1080i is leaps and bounds above either of them.

It depends on your set's native resolution. The Samsung DLP's are 720p, CRT's are 1080i. That is one of the advantages of fixed pixel displays like LCD, DLP, LCOS, etc...
