I have a Samsung HLP6163w DLP set. It upconverts all to 720P. I am purchasing new HD-dvr with HDMI output. It can ouput to all resolutions. Should I set it to 720P because set is 720P. If I set it to 1080i, will it downconvert to 720p, therefore not the best option???? or does it only upconvert to 720P and will display the better resolution of 1080i????I can't find the answers anywhere.

also.....since tv upconverts to 720P, is there any benefit to getting an upconversion DVD player????Will the picture be significantly better???

Too hard to say. You have to see the picture quality.

Some 720p-1080i conversions are downconversions, not upconversions. Some 1080i-720p conversions are downconversions, not upconversions. Some devices may do both conversions as downconversions.

Programs that were originally 720 should be sent tot he TV as 720p.

I would not bother with a 720p (upconverting) DVD player.
