Help for this newbie please. Just installed the PLV-z4 projector, and a Carada Criterion screen. Incredibly pleased with it.

The projector has HDMI, and my 3 year old Toshiba dvd player does not, so I thought I would get an improvement by upgrading the dvd, and moving from component to HDMI.

Got the Samsung 850B, and an expensive 15 foot cable, but noted a softer lower quality picture with some noise. Tried both 720P (native for projector) and 1080I, with same results. Switched to the component output still poor.

Switched back to the old Toshiba on component out, got the great picture back.

Could the Sammy just be a poor DVD, or could this be do to HDCP?[IMG]

Assuming the Samsung 850 is just not a very good player, can somebody reccomend a good mid range DVD player, that they have used on HDMI with good sucess?

Is there any real benefit to an upconverting player?

Do i need to be concerned with HDCP with the Sanyo PLV-Z4 projector, which is a very new model, but makes no mention of HDCP?

Are all HDMI displays HDCP compatible?
