I just read on Coming Attractions that Gloria Foster, the actress who played the Oracle in The Matrix has passed away.
I guess she had completed most of her work for the next Matrix movie. Is this production cursed or something? First Aaliyah and now Gloria Foster?
Bummer.

Man I just finished watching that movie again. She could not have been that old. That is bad.

Please please please please please please please tell me she did her scenes for The Matrix II and III! I'd hate for her to be written out, or even replaced. I loved her short role in The Matrix! Added so much to film in that short scene.

That is sad news indeed. I thought she did an excellent job portraying an unlikely Oracle - just about what one would expect given the Matrix.
May she rest in peace.

Add to that Keanu Reeve's girlfriend, Jennifer Syme, who was killed in a car accident.
There is truly a curse over this production, but I'm most impressed they have managed to continue the work (almost) unaffected...

I believe I read that she was 64 years old. Also, according to Coming Attractions, here character was to be "integral" to both of the sequels. And some source said here performance in the 2nd film is nothing short of fantastic.
So sad....

I was very sad to learn of this news too. I'm not a hyper Matrix fan, I enjoy the movie though and continue to get strange looks when I say that my fave scene isnt actually any of the violent stuff, but in fact that very scene where Neo visits the Oracle.
Hopefully come time of 3 they will find a way to make up for the loss. I would rather see no Oracle in part 3 then see another actress in the role. I hope thats true that her contribution to Reloaded was completed prior to her passing.

it really seems like the matrix is cursed:
first keanu reeves girlfiends looses a baby
then his girlfriend dies
A. dies
"Oracle" Actress dies.
Sorry guys..but i don`t really think that it will be easy for them to adjust the story and it still is as good as the source material.
the Oracle was fantastic and it is indeed sad news

Hey, this is peanuts compared to what happened during production of The Crow and they managed to release a critically successful movie. I'm sure the Bros. Wachowski will do fine as well.

quote: When did Keanu's Girlfriend die & what happened?
A short while prior to principal photography as I recall. Car accident I believe.
quote: What was the exact cause of Brandon Lee's death? I'm still unclear about that.
Brian, I think it involved one of the blank firing guns used on set. I believe something went wrong and fragments managed to blast out. I know someone here will know the full deal.

Brandon Lee was shot with a real bullet on the set during filming. It was not determined, to my knowledge, what real bullets were doing on the set. I forget if the guns that shoot blanks are normally capable of shooting real bullets, or if something was wrong with the gun too. I have also heard that the events also reflected on Bruce Lee's last movie, where he played an actor seeking revenge for being shot during the filming of a movie.
I can't vouch for all of the information here, but it sounds like what I heard back when this happened:

Don't mean to keep this thread off topic, but Brandon Lee died as a result of a mock pistol round with a loose bullet being placed into a movie revolver. Somehow, the bullet dislodged from the mock round and remained in the cylinder and went unnoticed by the firearms propman (a cardinal sin apparently...you're supposed to examine every round and firearm, after they have been handled in a film, between shoots).
When a blank was placed into the revolver and fired, the powder from the blank propelled the stage bullet with enough force to mortally wound Brandon.
This was a tragic movie-set accident that floored me when I first heard it.
I also did not hear about Keanu Reeve's girlfriend being killed in an accident. Terrible news, indeed.
