My freind just bought a Pioneer DV-563A-s wich is able to play SACD. We hooked it up and couldnt play SACD with the COAX digital connection, only with stereo RCA hookups. Is this normal? Its the first time I have tried SACD so I know nothing about it. HELP!:b Is the 2 channel hookup better than the 5.1 or should I just get 6 cables and go that way?

SACD players don't pass the DSD signal in digital domain at the momment, nor there are any external decoding device to "receive" it.You must use the analog connections.Same goes for DVD-A on that player.
I would use the 6ch output, as that could be used for both multichannel and for 2 ch SACDs.

Lewis is correct! At the present time SACD doesn't pass its data stream (DSD) in the digital domain. Firewire appears to be one of the leading contenders for SACD to pass digital data. However, at this time, to get all of the glory of SACDs you need to connect in the analog domain, either 2 channel or 5 channel.
