Sorry if this is a newbie q, but the search function wasn't helping me a whole lot.

I just got 3 Doors Down on the SACD. Love it. I also love the fact that it's a redbook CD as well, so I can listen to it on the go. However, I am at work right now (slow day) and the CD won't even be recognized by my CD-rom/DVD-writer here. Haven't tried it elsewhere.

I was wondering, ia that a normal, anti-piracy, measure? Is there any way around this? I would love to have the music available at work without draining my personal CD player batteries. I'm a CAD draftsman for a big engineering company so the computer is a totally new and very well equipped Dell. Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

That is one of the big big problems with SACD Hybrids. Many PC drives will not recognize the medium. The CD layer is not read, but the DVD layer is which is unrecognizable by the computer as it contains SACD data. This may be one of the big reasons Sony themselves are investigating Hybrid flippers.

Yep. DVD drives don't read hybrids. Big pain in the ass.

My PC has one DVD drive and one CD-ROM, so I was able to rip from the CD-ROM. But now my PC is locked away, so I can't rip SACDs. Sucks.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.
Sucks though! At least I can listen to it on MC SACD at home.

Both of mine read the CD layer just fine.

As for the SACD layer, Sony has stated that computers will never read the SACD layers.

It has something to do with the anti-copy measures of Sony's Pit Signal Processing, at least this is my understanding of it.
    edit:
I should also include that all my pc & dvd drives
    zero problems reading the hybrid's.
