Is it really necessary to purchase a player with high quality DACs if the signal will go straight to my 3803 receiver(Optical connection)? Can I get away with purchasing the $150 Pioneer SACD/DVD-A player without sacrificing sound quality?
Also, is there a noticeable difference in sound quality between a CD, SACD and DVD-A music?

    Thanks-----Scott

sacd and dvda must be played via a 2 or 6-channel analog connection into the receiver. therefore, the player's DACs come into play. yes, it seems redundant, but sacds have too much info (i think) for the digi connection and dvdas are copyright protected.

    i recommend a denon 2200 or 2900 since you have a 3803.
