Of course, the greater issue is the vast number of truly qualified non-astronauts who are far more deserving of a seat aboard a Russian Soyuz-TM spacecraft for a ride to the International Space Station. South Africa's Mr. Shuttleworthy at least made himself useful.
But a bimbo boyband pop star?
Well, if he don't cough up the dough, maybe someone more deserving will get that seat on the Soyuz-TM this October.
Meanwhile, NASA wonks are probably fuming and using language not suitable for commercial broadcast television when they see the ISS being used as a pawn in a cheap publicity stunt for a man-child entertainer with no grounding in science or technology.

If I could afford it I would go, so I have no problem with him going.

Anyone who's willing to shell out that kind of dough clearly considers the trip more than just a passing whim. As I understand it, Mr. Bass has had a lifelong dream of being launched out to space. As much as I dislike his "music," I don't think that should be grounds for disqualification.

If he's willing to pay, I say "Bon Voyage."

I think it's a great idea to send him into space.

I mean, it's not like they're planning on bring him back. They aren't, right?

Somehow I doubt MTV airtime will have much of an effect on NASA funding. [IMG]

I'll have to count myself amongst those that don't have a problem with it. Like others have said, if I could afford it, I'd go in a heartbeat. Hell, if they'd asked, I'd have gone the day after Challenger...

If this gets more young people interested in the space program, then I say strap his ass to the rocket![IMG] Like many others, I'd consider paying extra for him to have a one way with Saturday stay-over, as they say.[IMG]
At this point, I'll take ANYTHING to garner interest in the space program.

Well, I for one hope that he is not only paying his own way, but is paying a rich, rich premium on top of that, one which will be plowed back into the space program; in other words, I hope space has at least a 1000% markup for "tourists."

I can understand exactly how Jack feels. Some earnestly devote a lifetime to the study of space and never get to go there. It's pretty easy to say "I've always dreamed..." but if it really was his lifelong dream, why didn't he pursue it as a career?

Actually, no matter how dumb our dancing friend is, if he's in space on MTV saying how much we all need to support the space program, it WOULD because kids may start taking an interest in space again

This was just too funny. I was thinking it at about the same time I read this. I'm still chuckling.
