Just got this e-mail from the official site:

"It's official! The much-anticipated "Rush in Rio" live double-DVD and triple-CD set release is slated for Tuesday, October 21. This is the band's first DVD and contains footage from the Vapor Trails tour filmed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The DVD set contains many special features and a behind-the-scenes documentary of the band shot in Brazil by Andrew MacNaughtan.

Also, the triple-CD set has two "official bootleg tracks" not available on the DVD.

Go to Rush.com on Tuesday, September 2nd for of all the official information."

Nice to finally have a confirmed release date. I assume the special features will be announced on the site tomorrow.

Though personally I'd kill for a release of A Show of Hands on DVD. I used to watch that tape all the time when I was younger. I'd be suprised it it'll even play anymore since it's viewed so much.

Thx, Rob. I wish the "official site" could get little things like this being Rush's first live concert film DVD release right (it's not their "first DVD").

Hopefully this release date will hold and not be pushed back for I think a third time.

Brett: I'll have to go check out the message board. Looking forward to that docu. Thx for the post.

Good point--in my excitement over finally getting a solid release date, I didn't even notice that. I guess this is actually their third DVD, if you count the bonus disc with the recent hits collection.

Maybe they meant the first DVD the band has actually been involved with?

Don't the recently announced SACDs come out about this time, too? And, MusicTap reported 10/21 as the release date for the new Dream Theater album.

This is going to be an expensive fall for music.

Although most of what he reports is known already (except for the bit about a "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" Easter egg!), Matt has some info. about the release in his post today at MusicTap.
