Here are the top grossing acts for 2001 according to Rolling Stone:
    U2, $61.9M
    Dr. Dre, $51.9M
    The Beatles, $47.9M
    Dave Matthews Band, 43.4M
    Madonna, $40.8M
The link contains the complete top 50.
Of course, my personal favorite, DMB, is in the top 5 again.

How are the Beatles a top grossing act? Have they released something I didn't know about?

Mike, the recent compilation "One" sold a TON of copies and their back catalogue continues to sell well.

I saw this in yesterday's USA Today and my first thought were about some of the recent topics here disparaging them as a band. All in all, not to bad for a group that disbanded 32 years ago.

Ah, yes, "One," right. Forgot about that one. Although I seem to remember it coming out earlier than that.
    Hold on, lemme check...
allmusic.com says is came out "late in 2000," which means that many, if not most, of its sales were actually in 2001. Ok, makes sense.
Anyway, my question was one of social/financial curiosity, not musical or artistical judgement. No need to get into "Beatles defense" mode. [IMG]
