Anyone see this yet? overall I dug it but you have to be willing to put up with it being dubbed in Hindi from its original language and watch in English subtitles with, well, the English as the bad guys.

It’s getting great buzz via Netflix. Fictionalized and lionized (heh) retelling of India fighting for its independence. Something I know very little about. It’s very long but was very enjoyable. Very Shakespearean with musical/dance breaks and some wild if obvious CGI. Hints of Predator, Dirty Dozen, West Side Story, buddy cop movies and more with over the top action.

The 4K transfer is very colorful but the Atmos mix. could have used more bass

It is supposed to be release in 50 different language dubs:https://www.republicworld.com/enter...ages-across-the-world-report-articleshow.html

Eventually the English dub will be on Netflix. I do wonder if the original language dub will make it as apparently the on scene shots have multiple different languages and the dibs are standardizing the spoken l
Words to one language.

Do you recall if there was a switch to English for the villains in the dub you watched?

Weeelll, that was amazingly historically accurate. 😆
Kick ass tune and choreography though.

I have not yet seen the movie, only the above clip. It's interesting to me that with this much money, the lip sync is not great. Even the English speaking parts does not perfectly match the lips.

A very enjoyable and fast moving film. Very over the top but a very engaging story. Pity that they had to (as most Indian films do ) shove musical song and dance sequences in the film that had no relation to the story. A song sung during a brutal torture scene was very out of place. Great direction and mostly superb special effects. The musical and dance scene after the finale had no place in this film. To see the entire cast -friends and enemies - dancing and singing all together as friends is another flaw with some Indian films.

RRR has some cheeky fun moments and entertaining action, but spread out over three hours, the percentage isn't high. And, the script really is Sharknado stupid.
I've seen a few other Indian action/musical films so I guess I wasn't as wowed by just the sheer spectacle alone as all those folks proclaiming: YOU'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE!!
Not to mention, that if such a dunderheaded movie were made by Michael Bay or Roland Emmerich -- a lot of the folks who are praising it to the skies would be laughing it off the screen. Exoticsm at its most blatant.

I'll cop to not having seen a lot of Bollywood cinema, so there was a certain novelty (for me) to the enterprise. But I'd argue that the sheer enthusiasm of the film for its subject enabled me to basically 'go with' the film where it wanted to take me. Sure it defied physics the way a Bay or Emmerich or even an MCU film might, but that was part of the bargain the film made with the audience. It is deliberately over the top and it conveys this early in the film. You either go with that stylistic convention or not.

It was not a stupid film, as it laid out its mythology and established motivations for its protagonists. I was very entertained by the feature and willingly accepted its excesses. Sue me. :)

I found RRR exhilarating when I saw it a few months back. Clearly heightened drama, action, everything, but it was expertly made and performed. Outstanding film.

This is a rather odd statement to make. I'm guessing you're not overly familiar with Bollywood productions? The song and dance at the end has nothing to do with the story and is analogous to the entire cast coming out and holding hands and bowing to the audience after the end of a broadway play.

And, it's been done in some form in films from all over the world, to boot.
As in one of my personal faves:

‘RRR’ Director S.S. Rajamouli Talks About His Spectacular Action Epic And Reveals That The Ecstatic U.S. Reception Has Inspired A Sequel: “Nothing Is Impossible”

Seeing is disbelieving when it comes to RRR, an Indian blockbuster set during the rule of the British Raj. Starring Telugu icons Ram Charan and N.T. Rama Rao Jr. (N.T.R.), it’s a lavish adventure based loosely — veryloosely — on two legendary Indian freedom fighters of the early 20th century, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (N.T.R). Whether these two ever did drive motorcycles through exploding trains, fight with lions and tigers and bears, and challenge Delhi’s high society to a dance battle is a moot point, but the magic of S.S. Rajamouli’s delirious, incendiary epic — those three Rs stand for Rise, Roar, Revolt — is that it piles on the spectacle without ever losing its sense of fun.

This movie was a true Spectacle. It was amazing and fun.
I had a little trouble figuring out the proper audio track on NF because they didn’t make it known on there for you to get the Atmos track you need to select the original Hindi track.

Everything looked gorgeous.
The two leads had ALL the charisma.

I did have issue with two things in the movie.
Spoilers

After the little girl was taken Raju went into training and basically became a mythical hero who was feared by all and he was prepared to do anything to find her.

Once BHeem and he became friends that aspect was all but dropped except for when he unleashed all the animals and even then he was subdued somewhat easily.

The other issue was the whipping of Raju by BHeem.
At that point it didn’t make any sense for him to Continue his charade.
Not at the risk of killing his friend.
Maybe someone else could have been the wipper.

While I didn’t care for the actions I thought the entire scene was remarkable.

Overall it’s a great movie and worth a look

I'm guessing he thought that saving an entire village or his people was more important than his friend. Or that he was confident that Raju could take it and survive.

The main issue I had was my own fault. I had no idea that BHeem was the same person with his beard. We saw him at the start with his commanding mustache. Then when he pops up again and is on the bridge saving the kid where they became friends with his full beard, I had no idea that was the same person. 2/3rds of the way through the film I kept wondering when mustache guy was going to come back into the story. It wasn't until he went back to shaving his beard, that I figured it out. D'oh!

Is Hindi the original language? No matter which language I select, the sync with their lips never looks right, even with Hindi.

Edit: Answered my own question. According to Wikipedia, Telugu is the original language, with dubbed version in "Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and other Indian and foreign languages" I'm guessing Netflix doesn't have the Telugu version.
