    What are these...like widescreen?

    Read Projection TVs. Some are widescreen (16:9), some are standard (4:3).

    Why are they better, if they are at all?

    Well...for starters, they are bigger.

    And when properly calibrated, set-up and maintained...they deliver the Home Theater experience just as good as any direct view set. Depending on room size, a RPTV can be much better than any direct view set.
