Do any of the rear projection CRTs do 720p as well as 1080i? I have an '03 Mitsubishi that can't handle 720p at all and it seems the new models are the same. Out of curiosity I looked up other manufacturers and they didnt do 720p either. This just seems strange to me as I am always hearing about 720p and/or 1080i as the major two HDTV modes and I can't even find and RPTVs that do both.

Hmm, many newer RPTV's will take it, they just upconvert it to 1080i.

Mine doesn't do it either though.

I purchased a Sony KDP-57WS655 a few months back and it will accept and display 480p, 720p, and 1080i signals.

There are no current crt based rptvs that will display native 720p. Many will accept 720p but will convert it to 1080i. All stbs I know of will also convert 720p to 1080i, and do it quite nicely, so the only benefit to a native 720p display is perhaps for use with the X-Box.

They would also convert to 540p as well.

There was a discussion in the past saying that the when the very first HDTVs came out - Panasonic had one which did native 720p. Word that it wasn't out for long because it costs too much because high quality parts were needed to be able to perform 720p.
