Maybe another dumb question, but is it possible to do the squeeze trick on Toshiba RPTVs? If so, can anyone point me to a site with directions to get into the Toshiba Service Menu?

    Greetings
The Keohi.com/keohihdtv site is where you should go.
The squeeze is possible, but may be too much of a hassle since it involves extensive convergence work when going between modes.
From 4:3 to 16:9 ... it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to set up properly.
From 16:9 to 4:3 ... you undo that 20 to 30 minute work with another 20 to 30 minutes of convergence work.
    etc, etc, etc ...
    Regards

Alternatively, some (most? all?) 4:3 Toshiba HD-ready sets will do the squeeze if you pump in 540p or 1080i, so you can trick them with a HTPC. However, you'll have to use a RGB to component transcoder, since Toshiba sets don't have RGB input.

Lest someone stumble across this thread and read Abdul Jalib

's post and decide to mate an HTPC with a Toshiba H70 or HX70 series TV: I would strongly caution that unless you can find someone who has successfully done it, beware. In theory, it should work. In practice, I've only encountered people that have tried, but then given up.

With the help of forums like this one I tracked down the problems I (and a few others it sounds like) was having: the HIT setting in the service menu was WAY OFF for the HD portion of my TV. Fixing that has set me on the trail of a solution. There's still a lot of minor tweaking, but the big problem I had encountered appears to have simply been a very poor factory setting!
