I could have sworn I read a recent post that indicated a price in the low to mid-$400s for a Panasonic RP-91 from Etronics.com. I guess they raised their price on this machine quite substantially!

If this is correct, where's the best/most inexpensive place to buy this player?

they raised their prices! it was $419 across the board, but it's now $479.99 for gold and $549.99 for a black unit. glad i got mine when i did!
i had J&R pricematch the $419 and got my gold RP91 from them for $440 SHIPPED!! i bet you can get J&R to come down from their $499 to $479 if you call them up.

Thanks Thomas. I'm going to have to look around now for the best price on this unit. I was on the fence about buying one, and now that I'm leaning towards getting it, the prices go up...geez, what luck! I'm hoping I can still find a black unit in the mid-$400s...any ideas? I haven't done any price checks yet.

Well, I've done a quick search and it does look like other places are still selling it far cheaper than Etronics. Beach Camera has it for $436, and there are other online e-tailers in the same ballpark. Whew!

If you're not in a hurry to get the player, B&H Photo/Video has it for $449, but they're currently back-ordered...

$421 is a good price. Is Expresscameras.com reputable?

www.edigitalstop.com had them for $415.95 the last time I checked them. Just go to Yahoo shopping and do a search for RP91 and you'll get plenty of choices to pick from.
    Good Luck

For what it's worth, I ordered my camera ($450) from Beach Camera a few years back and have had no problems what-so-ever. I still use it all the time. However, I never had to deal with trying to send it back, repairs, or anything, so I can't say how they deal with that if you needed to. And this was a few years ago.

    Good luck!

    Thomas_Berg,

All you have to do is make one call (like Myram said)! You've basically got to ask them to discount it and they will. You may also want to inquire about any "special" deals they may be running.

BTW, that price also included Fed Ex 2-Day shipping!

Good luck finding one of these this week. I've had one on back order from J&R for 2 weeks, and was told that they might be in by the 1st of Jan. Another vendor told me that Panasonic amongst other companies scaled back production after 9/11. Don't know if I buy this, but I've tried half a dozen places and all "no stock" --and none of them have any clear idea when they will see more.

    No Christmas present for me...

That's right! Onecall doesn't discount their prices much
unless you ASK for a discount. But if you ask, they'll
usually give a nice discount. It may seem wierd but that's
    how it is with them...
Of course if you want a better online price than even Onecall
just go to pricegrabber.com, then type in "rp91" in the little
box. I personally wouldn't worry about having to return the
rp91. Some dealers will double-box the unit for a little ex$ra.
Prices have gone up from $416 it was at last month, due to
Christmas jack-up-the-pricing. It is available now for $429.95
plus shipping, in either black or champagne color.
If you wait until after Christmas jack-up-the-pricing, chances
are the online RP91 price will come down even more.
    As always, procrastination pays!

Ya know, typing in a model number into pricegrabber, and coming up with a price of $429 means nothing if the unit is not available.

    Which it isn't.

    I've checked lots of places.

    Will,
My RP91 arrived double-boxed for no extra charge [IMG]
Plus, I was willing to pay a few extra bucks to get the unit from a company with a good reputation.

Did you have to send J&R a pair of Knicks season tickets to get that deal? [IMG] Once you're finished school at TCU, you should consider a career in sales or negotiation!

It was with alarm that I began reading this thread on Monday. I had finally decided to get the RP91 and now this! I searched and could not find anyone who had it in stock.
I finally found a place called Major Fusion (www.majorfusion.com) whose website had it listed as being in stock. They also had a reasonable price ($425).
I took a chance and ordered it. I'll let you know what happens.
