Anyone heard when this is coming out yet? And are they planning another "internet-only" collector's edition?

    Thanks in advance,
    David

Looks like these will be available in a couple of weeks! I think I'll get the internet only version again.

Actually, the standard version is out on Tuesday. The two CEs will be out two weeks later.

This is my first time double-dipping with a CD [IMG]

Sorry I don't know about a special Internet-only edition. However, a box set of even more music from each film is possible:

I thought I'd read somewhere that there would be an SACD or DVD-A or ROTK. Was I imagining this?

The LotR soundtrack site just went live with the RotK soundtrack info a few days ago:

    http://www.lordoftherings-soundtrack.com

And yes, like last year, there IS an "internet-only" version of the RotK SE soundtrack. Comes with all the SE extras (including DVD) plus all 7 character cards that are normally packed (one per unit) with the standard jewel-case edition that streets tomorrow.

Well, I just ordered the internet-only version. I've got my standard version on the way from Amazon right now.

I hope this doesn't set a precedent for double-dipping with CDs. It's bad enough with only DVDs [IMG]

What's the point of double dipping on this one? Both CDs contain the exact same music. I just ordered the Internet Edition... I'll probably have to wait awhile since I just used standard shipping... I'll find the score on the internet and listen to that in the meantime.

    Mike,
There wasn't. FOTR had two editions, TTT and ROTK three (normal, Collectors Edition, Internet Edition). That doesn't include the three disk set which merely includes all the discs in a box.

    Take care,
    Chuck

I got it. I was at Best Buy to get X2 when I noticed the soundtrack in the CD section. I already ordered the Internet Limited Edition, but I couldn't pass it up. Oh well.

Picked it up after work at the Future Shop near home.

A subdued album compared to the other two. Looks like Shore has concentrated on presenting music for the quiet moments.

The Shelob Lair's track is really going to add to the atmosphere of that sequence!

The Grey Havens cue when coupled with images of the movie is going to really be emotionally affecting.

I'll need a few more listens before I can make conclusive statements.

I found some more information on the four options that will be available including CD&DVD editions:
    1. The CD format will feature 19 original selections from the film.
    2. A special limited edition package will contain the best-selling soundtracks from all three installments of The Lord Of The Rings, including The Fellowship Of The Ring (2001) and The Two Towers (2002).
    3. A deluxe CD DVD edition will contain The Return Of The King CD and an exclusive DVD that will feature bonus material including a The Lord of the Rings "supertrailer"; a The Return of the King photo gallery from the recording sessions; film stills; and poems and lyrics from The Return Of The King. It will also contain the special feature, "Use Well The Days: A Behind The Scenes Portrait of Howard Shore," a 20-minute documentary focusing on Shore's work in London during the recording of the film score by documentarian Elizabeth Cotnoir; as well as a second Anne Lennox track recorded especially for the DVD.
    4. The Internet-only edition which is the CD DVD package with additional The Lord Of The Rings extras.[/list=1]

I agree with Lou. It's good, but except for the Grey Havens part I wasn't hearing anything that I could really match up with my imagination of events in the book. Listening to FOTR before the movie was released, I could do that and it was great, then even better once I had seen the movie. But TTT doesn't do that, and I don't think ROTK will either.
