Coincidentally why I'll be waiting to attempt buying it sometime in spring. I'll find somebody cleaning house on their DVD/BD collection and pick a price I'm willing to pay and find a slew of them...and bid away till I snag one.

Let me start by saying I don't own many Criterion titles. There are arguments
both in favor and against their pricing structure, and really, it comes down to
whether one wants to pay a premium for their titles on release day or wait for
a sale. Me? I rarely will spend more than $24 for a new release.

I waited for Rosemary's Baby to go on sale, and was able to scoop it up a
few weeks ago on Amazon for about $18. The reason I chose this particular
film was because it was one I never owned on any format. The last time I
had seen Rosemary's Baby was on VHS. So, watching it now after all these
years turned out to be an entirely fresh experience for me. Also, being much
older (and somewhat wiser), I had a better appreciation for this film. As a teen,
I didn't originally get many of the small innuendoes hidden within the film, and
this was the first time I actually viewed it and thought, WOW, what a masterpiece
this movie was for its time, and remarkably, holds up quite well 45 years later.

In fact, I was so intrigued by what I had seen that I did something I don't
normally have the time to do -- sit through the documentary which featured
Roman Polanski and Mia Farrow. It was a fascinating doc which I thoroughly
enjoyed. Never knew Mia was married to Sinatra or that this film was one of
the reasons for their divorce (which happened in the middle of filming).

As far as the transfer is concerned, it's amazing to see how good this print
has been cleaned up and presented in a manner that doesn't reveal its age.
I was very impressed with how good the overall transfer looked.

So, at this point, I am very proud to add Rosemary's Baby as my second
Criterion title (the other is Seven Samurai) within my extremely vast library.
I will be looking forward to purchasing my next Criterion title, The Blob, and
possibly (based on recommendations) a blind purchase of A Man Escaped.

Ron you really ought to partake in the the Barnes and Noble 50% Criterion sales if you have a nearby store with a media section.
With a membership or 2 month free trial memberships done judiciously through the year and with their frequent coupons, you can easily pick
up Criterions for $12-15 in store.
