Hi

I've got two rooms I can use to install some a/v hardware for a home theater effect. First is a family room. This room has 17' high ceilings. It's 32' deep and 18' wide and has the kitchen the back 1/3 with a bar top dividing the back 1/3 from the family room.

The other room is just a bedroom with 8' ceilings and about 12x15.

I'm really leaning towards putting some good equipment ($3-4k) in the family room, maybe the new 7.1 THX certified package from Onkyo. Does anyone think I'll have problems because of the large room/high ceilings?

I also like to crank up the music. Any thoughts there appreciated also.

Thanks
Victor

The answer will depend quite heavily on how much you want to spend. The smaller room will most likely require a smaller TV than the bigger room, and that is where most of you money will go.

I have a 65" TV in a room that is 19x23, with 8' ceiling. The audio is pretty substantial with six JBL S-38 speakers and a 12" sub. I need more sub, but the speakers are more than enough. total cost, most equipment at steep discount, around $6k.
