The long, unbroken block of text containing all teh titles ron has recently reviewed is hard to read. It would be much better to split up the names in some other way for readability.

Hi, Jeff!

This is actually the first time I have received
this sort of complaint about the listing.

What browser are you using and what version?

Ron:
I use IE 6 and Phoenix 0.5.
It isnt really browser related. Just that long paragraphs of unbroken text are hard to read. If I am looking for a particular review, it takes a while to scan through all the text. I do like that it is broken up by studio, but I often dont know what studio owns a particular film.
An alternative to the current setup might be to have vertical lists for each studio.
In column format:
Fox
Die Hard
X Men
Independance Day
Star Wars: Attack of the Clones
The Banger Sisters
How Green Is My Valley (Highly Recommended)
The Good Girl (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED RENTAL)
Warner Bros
The Matrix
Unforgiven
Vacation
In row format:
Fox Die Hard; X Men; Independance Day; Star Wars: Attack of the Clones; The Banger Sisters; How Green Is My Valley (Highly Recommended); The Good Girl (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED RENTAL) Warner Bros The Matrix; Unforgiven; Vacation
I can find the title I am looking for faster when the data is in columns. Humans can scan through columns faster than rows, because with rows it takes longer to find the delimiter that seperates items.
Obviously you dont want to have a big long list of titles, but maybe making 3 columns would work.
Another option that I think would be an improvement would be to have a link to a seperate reviews page at the top of the current list. That link would take you to a page with an indexed list of titles, maybe something like Obi's Review's used to have.
[EDIT: I just found the link to "Rons Reviews". Maybe moving that link up into the list of titles would be a good idea. I have never noticed it before, tucked down in all those other mini-banner adds]
But I am by no means a web-design expert!

Jeff,

I'd like to help you with this -- really -- but
yours is the only complaint I have received about
this problem. I trust there is a problem on your
end, but it is difficult to do anything about when
the list is showing up fine on most everyone's
browser.

What you should be seeing is RED, BLACK and
BLUE lettering. Studios (in black) and links in
blue or red, depending if you have clicked on them
or not.

Your suggestion for a layout is a good one, but
I would have no idea how to code it. The fact that
I can lay out the list of releases as one long line
of text (separated by colors, links and semi-colons)
allows me to effortlessly update the list daily.

Let me keep my eyes open for any further problems
that members are having with the list. If I
continue to receive complaints then I'll look into
new ways of presenting the list.

Again, I am sorry for the complications you are
having.

I'm going to have to agree with Jeff on this. Although the list is quite readable, it is a kind of cluttered. A different layout would make it easier to read, I think.

i have to agree also. while it's not impossible to read it is just one big block of letters to my eyes.

i often have seen a thread were someone would post a very long reply as one giant paragraph with no breaks and i tend to not be able to read it because it's just a blur of letters to me.

i see the studio in black and the links in green and the word and in blue.
when i click one it turns red, i guess thats how my ie is set up.

I haven't forgotten about this thread, guys.

A member here has graciously volunteered to put
together some new designs for the DVD ANNOUNCEMENTS
list. Unfortunately, I am still unsure whether
these new designs really help the situation or not.

Though the new layout is very good, it takes up
more room than the old one and I am not
particularly happy about that.

Either I'll use this member's new layout or just
keep things the same. I really need time to think
it over and I have just been too busy these past
two weeks to do so.

If I can do it without having to take up more real
estate in the process, I'll honor your requests to
change the layout.

Have a good weekend.
